On A Benefit: PATH Funding

PATHS (Providing Access to Health Solutions), is a service for people getting either Supported Living Payment or Jobseeker Support because of a health condition or a disability.

It’s a joint service between Work and Income and Bay of Plenty District Health Board. Its purpose is to help people return to work by providing them with extra health interventions.

If approved, PATHS will fully fund the cost of your hearing aid/s.

If you live in the Western Bay of Plenty DHB catchment are and receiving Sickness or Invalid's Benefit, you can access PATHS via your Work and Income Case Manager, or your GP.

If you are a client of ours, and hearing aids are required in order for you to be able to work, we can refer you directly to one of the PATHS co-ordinators.

Once your referral is received, you will be invited to meet with the PATHS team.

The PATHS team includes the PATHS Co-ordinator, Health Co-ordinator and the Community Co-ordinator. After this meeting, you can decide if you want to participate in the PATHS programme.

If you decide to proceed, the Health Co-ordinator will give us a form to fill out with your history with us, so they can work out an individualised care plan.

We will book you in for an appointment with the Audiologist to discuss and go through the medical form. There won't be any charge for this appointment, PATHS will reimburse as part of the cost when they receive your medical form.

Once the application is approved, we will get you in for an appointment to discuss hearing aids that are suitable for your loss, then order hearing aids for you. The hearing aids will be fully funded by PATHS. Any appointments after your 3 month trial period will be $60 incl. GST.
